Throughout this project, the most common theme that I saw in my research was that Americans consume a TON!!! We have a strong middle class as opposed to other countries, and our middle class tends to have a large amount of disposable income. With the immense marketing campaigns that major American companies fund, the American populace is goaded into purchasing vast amounts of goods.
So, the big question is...does consumerism in America pose a problem? If so, what steps should be taken to fix this problem? What do you guys think? Could we be looking at the grim future as depicted in the Disney hit film, Wall-E?
In my opinion, American consumerism is a realization of the American Dream! I do not see it as a problem because it gives people in America the freedom to purchase what they want.
